05 April 2014 | Verenigde Staten, New York

It was a while ago since I uploaded my last blog, this was due to technical problems with our wifi-system (or maybe my lack of patience..).
Anyway, I'm currently at Seattle International Airport were there is a fast wifi-system and so I'm able to upload this ;)

I already told about Times Square and Central Park, so I'll continue from there.
Tuesday 1st of April: We had to get up early to visit the 9/11 memorial, which I found really impressing, I expected a lot of sadness, but it was quite OK. The memorial looked really nice, the security was 'airport-style', but this is understandable. We took some pictures and as real tourist we went on. The next stop was South Manhattan, to step aboard the ferry to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Liberty Island was an important stop because that is where the Statue of Liberty is (Vrijheidsbeeld), Ellis Island was special because of its history, it used to be the first security check where immigrants arrived when they tried to enter the US. So this was basically a museum. It was worth every penny!

Wednesday, we went to Manhattan Bridge, we crossed it to see the Brooklyn Bridge, which provided us with a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge and the skyscrapers on the background. We also visited Chinatown, it struck me that it wasn't very clean and cozy, but rather old and not really appropriate for tourists. From Chinatown we went to the Brooklyn Bridge to take a few pictures. After that we headed for little Italy to have dinner. It surprised me that there was plenty of well-prepared and healthy food available in New York. Many restaurants served quality food.

Thursday April 3rd, The last full day in New York. We went to Wall street in the morning, we expected a lot of businessmen to be around to head for work, but there weren't that many surprisingly. We decided to go to the National Museum of the American Indian to gain some knowledge about native americans. Most museums (including this one) were free of admission. But once again we had to go through the airport-style security. In the evening we went to a show of America's got Talent. We arranged some free tickets and we got to sit right behind the judges desk. It was extraordinary to see how a televisionshow like this was made.
After this show we headed back to the hotel as we were all quite tired.

Friday, we had to pack our suitcases because our flight would be departing in a few hours! We had a really nice american breakfast that morning at the hotel, after that we went to JFK airport.
After about 5 hours, we arrived at Seattle/Tacoma Internatiol airport. It was a really smooth flight. That evening our Bellingham hosts picked us up from Bellingham airport (where the shuttle bus arrived). And after a brief meeting we went to bed as it was 1:00 am already!

So that was our fantastic visit to New York, I'm a bit behind with my blogs but I'll try to post some new ones asap.

Greetings from Bellingham!
